Beggar currency... (Closed)Submitted by

There is a homeless/ beggar problem in the world and particularly in the city, where I live. I know that I want to help people and I want to do it in a way that really helps them. I am afraid that some options like just giving cash to a beggar can make the problem even bigger.
Among some of the concerns of giving money to a beggar: 1) It may encourage their begging for money 2) They may use it for things that hurt themselves and/or others, and more. I believe many people struggle with this issue; you want to help, but don't know how. I believe to really help those down on their luck, we need to educate them and have them participate in social programs that can reform them and help them become productive members of society. Therefore, beggars need to be encouraged to go to places of help well making sure that their basic needs are met. Mob Incentive is the perfect place to create the right solution: money is a great incentive, but can be used by beggars for less desirable things. So, I propose a currency system like welfare, that can be given to people to be used for needs. However, it would be distributed by people like you and me instead of the government. It is not meant to replace or compete with any social service but compliment these services and encourage people to use them. Beggar currency is like a gift certificate that can be used for goods and services that a person may need, but cannot be used for things like illegal drugs. It would be redeemable at social service centers. So, those services that are used get the money while we help those we come into contact with. So, we can do our part and give when we want and not worry that we will be contributing to the problem, but helping to solve the problem. If you think I am onto something, please contribute to this idea with money and/or suggestions. The money and/or suggestions you contribute will be used to develop and further promote this idea. The first phase is to further develop this idea (open source). Then, bringing together a team that can fine tune the idea, such as administration, legal aspects, etc. The promotional phase would be to work with government and private agencies to take this idea to the next level: getting the beggar currency accepted by institutions and promoting it to the public for distribution. If we gather the resources needed, we can run a pilot program at the city level. Then, grow regionally and hopefully nationally. You can start by suggesting a great name for the notes...
