Find Colin a Job! (Completed)

Pledged
$40.00
Paid
$3.00
Colin is a good guy -- but more importantly, he owes me beer. Lots of it. But I won't take it unless he has a job. If I offer up some money to find him a job, I'm pretty sure I'll still come out ahead.

To be honest I'm not sure what kind of job Colin is looking for, but I'll bug him to add to the discussions to help narrow the search. I know he's interested in helping the environment, but I don't have much more than that.

This job has to be in Seattle. If you find him a job that causes him to leave the local area, I won't be able to get my beer as easily.

I think you should all come down to aus and work for me
by the time you get home you will glad to be away from
beer and col will think he is brewery. As far as the fund raising goes he"ll be on constant
fundraising mission just helping his unfortunate workmates survive the rest of the week
to pay day after drinking there last dollar on the weekend. To
fullfill
his desire to help the environment we have some severe drought going on so
i would be quite happy for col to instagate some raindancing in there lunch hour and after work .
So as you can see if you can get past the job being alittle out of seattle it has benefits all round.
Hope this has shed some beer on your

problem .
regards Just
p.s Please find picture of work mate to help you feel comfy with the idea.
pps It would do him good to get away from that grunge seen anyway

i wonder if colin has made more money from mobincentive than other things he's been doing. =) maybe his plan is to take the money from this idea...

Even our Uncle Bob is asking ME whether Colin will ever get a job. I am willing to provide further incentive too, but there's only so much a poor grad student can do about finding a job...for someone else.

I think we'll need a little more incentive -- the weather has been nice these past few days so I can see how finding a job would be difficult to do. =)

Here's a posting on craigslist for director of volunteer programs for a non-profit: http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/npo/376881559.html.

Colin, is this interesting at all? Is non-profit okay? Is it within the realm of the kind of work that you would want to do? Tell me what you hate about it and that might help me narrow down my next suggestion :)

Colin likes to brew beer and the couple times I've tried his beer, I think it's pretty good, and I think he likes brewing beer. Colin also likes ultimate frisbee and when he plays, I think he's pretty good, and I think he likes playing frisbee.

There is a also this brewery in Seattle called Georgetown Brewing that is run by this guy Manny who makes pretty good beer and plays pretty good ultimate frisbee.

So, I think Colin should drop Manny at Georgetown Brewing a line (206.766.8055) and see if there are any jobs/apprenticeships/internships available so he can brew beer and play frisbee, both things that he likes to do.

In addition, this will make it much easier for Colin to repay his beer debt to naptime96.

What, you don't like butterflies?

I was drunk when this picture was taken so I can't be sure. I think it looks like you're making a shadow puppet of a butterfly, but it's also possible you were spouting off about the west siiiiiide.

Hi Nick --

I think you brought up a good point. I suppose it's only fair that Colin is eligible to win if it helps motivate him finding a job. Besides, now that Vijay has provided some competition with his idea, I should make this a little easier for Colin to win. He's a trust-worthy guy, I don't think he'll take advantage of his power as a judge.

Anyway, I've modifed the idea and removed the clause saying that Colin isn't eligible. Thanks for the input and contribution!

I have a new idea for a contest. Let's find a new picture of me. What the hell am I doing there?

Anywho, things that have peaked my interest recently are working for an environmental NGO, but I'm not really interested in doing fundraising/canvassing stuff. My last temporary job was doing research on global climate change. I enjoyed that. Also, before that I worked with at-risk youth. That was rewarding as well. But no strongly religious programs, and no residential (i.e. I have to go live there) programs. Those were the two things that made me quit that job.

I don't think the prize can possibly succeed with this other prize competing:

I certainly attach a monetary value to not having to answer questions such as "When is Colin going to get a job?" from our other family members. I haven't decided exactly how much it's worth to me, but this current donation will serve as a placeholder. I will probably pledge in increments.

Edmund, in order to properly align incentives, shouldn't Colin be eligible to win as well? As the challenge currently stands, this will provide an incentive for users to facilitate Colin's job search. But don't we also want to provide Colin with an incentive to increase the effort he puts into his own job search? I do see the conflict of interest inherent in having him judge and also be eligible to win, but maybe you should just be the judge. Colin could only win if he takes a job that is not proposed as a solution. And solutions have to be actual openings, not just "you should look for work at an environmental NGO".
