I Need a Hangover Cure (Expired)Submitted by

Everybody's been there. The regret. The remorse. The frequent vomiting. I'm looking for a good hangover cure with a focus on dealing with nausea.
Some ground rules: 1. I need a way to deal with a hangover not prevent one. Yes, I know I should have been drinking more water but guess what? I was drunk. 2. I’d rather have a home remedy than a commercial product. I don’t drink often enough to bother stocking a hangover specific product. I’ve got a houseguest staying with me who’s willing to test some of these cures, but I’ll also be relying on feedback from other users to judge the winner. ![]() Add

A. How to cure hangover:
(1) Drink water as soon as you get up in the morning to rehydrate yourself. If possible, have a sports drink. The electrolytes and nutrients in a sports drink can replenish your body's depleted reserves.
(2) Drink even more water if you plan to have coffee. Caffeine is a mild diuretic and can contribute to dehydration.
(3) Stick to liquids that are at room temperature. Drinks that are excessively hot or cold will be even more of a shock to your struggling stomach.
(4) Take an over-the-counter pain reliever such as aspirin or ibuprofen to relieve a pounding headache or body aches.
(5) Eat easily digestible foods when you're ready. Fresh fruit, toast and water-based soups are all easy on the stomach. Harder-to-digest foods such as eggs and milk can cause stomach problems.
(6) Relax, rest or go back to bed. Allow some time for your body to feel positive effects from your treatments.
Tips & Warnings
(1) Take preventive measures beforehand: Drink responsibly and in moderation. If you've drunk in excess and suspect you'll be hung over the next morning, drink a few glasses of water right before you go to bed.
(2) Rehydrate yourself with liquids that are at room temperature. Drinks that are excessively hot or cold will make your struggling stomach work even more.
(3) Do not take an acetaminophen-based painkiller to relieve symptoms. Combining acetaminophen and alcohol can damage your liver. Consider ibuprofen instead.
(4) If you are an excessive drinker, use caution when taking any over-the-counter painkillers.

B. How to avoid hangover:
(1)Eat before you drink. Starchy carbohydrates such as bread and pasta will slow the absorption of alcohol.
(2) Avoid very sweet drinks that disguise their alcohol content, and avoid mixing different types of alcohol.
(3) Drink water in between alcoholic drinks to prevent dehydration.
(4) Eat hearty food while you are drinking.
(5) FiveDrink another glass of water when you get home.
Tips & Warnings
(1) If you get a really bad hangover, keep track of what you had to drink the night before and avoid it next time.
(2) Avoid aspirin or ibuprofen if you have stomach ulcers or gastritis
Naturally, the goals are to a) Hydrate and b) settle the tummy. The hydration will normally take care of the headache (at least for me personally.)
Speaking from my own experience:
1) Ginger Soothers: A ginger and honey drink found at Health Food Stores. Settles the stomach nicely
2) A VERY HOT LONG SHOWER: Sitting in the steam for 20 - 30 minutes can work wonders, this was a life save on many morning after entertaining clients and before meetings.
3) My personal favorite is a milkshake or Frapachino. This helps settle the tummy and can also give you a sugar spike. Depending on what you drank, your blood sugar may be out of whack, which can also contribute to the head pain. Thus, this kills two-birds with one stone.
4) If you made it this far into the day without spewing, try to get a heavy breakfast down. This is a little counter-intuitive, but if you can keep it down you will feel normal within an hour. My personal favorite is Biscuits and Gravy with a side of bacon.
5) Last resort: If you have tried all the above and still want to die at 11 AM. Give up and surrender to the hangover. Just puke and get it over with. Then clean yourself up and go get a greasy burger for lunch. It's no fun, but it is guaranteed to work.

Again, I'm looking for a cure I can use once I wake up with a hangover. Solutions that involve preparation, or remembering to drink water aren’t as helpful because:
1. I never plan to drink heavily enough to get a hangover. I’m not going to bother taking something that prevents a hangover because I’m only planning to have one or two drinks.
2. Once I start drinking I’m unlikely to remember (or bother) to drink water
2) drink honey water it will help you fast go sleep and without headache the next day
3) eat lots grapes, it help you not to have nausea feeling. in fact, if you eat lots grapes before you drink, then it will keep you from drunk.
4) never drink with empty stomach
5) drink lots tomato juice with a little salt added.
I never try these and just saw them on a paper.
good luck on trying them.
Yet, my tried and true cure is a double quarter pounder with cheese and a HiC Orange drink from McDonalds.
Deeds
2. sleep in
3. eat a greasy breakfast (e.g. dim sum)
4. drink less next time
Take two ibuprofen and a big glass of water before you sleep.
