Legalize marijuana

$115
The average price of 0.5 grams (a unit) of marijuana sold for $8.60 on the street, while its cost of production was only $1.70.
In a free market, a $6.90 profit for a unit of marijuana would not last for long.

How will this idea be judged? Legislation must be passed (in the United States) and signed into law making the possession of marijuana legal. Selling may be regulated but should not be any more restrictive than the regulation of tobacco or alcohol.

Payment will be divided among the campaign funds of co-sponsors of legislation that is passed into law, up to the legal maximum. Payment will then be divided among lobbying groups who successfully influence the passage of such legislation.

The government (at least in the USA) is not allowed to reap a profit on property seized in criminal investigations and when seizing property in instances such as foreclosure. Many times the gov't loses money on these sales, and in many instances a sale is not done, the property is simply returned to the owner or disposed of(most criminal investigations only allow property to be seized as "evidence" so unless the property is contraband like weed they can't keep it or charge the owner, they simply return the property. Look at it this way, if you are a drug dealer renting an apartment, there are laws that say the apartment can be seized, but they don't sell the apartment back to the landlord, they just GIVE it back after the investigation.).

actually, kevin your wrong.... the government would make far more money if they legallized it.
jails and prisons are full from the people that get arrested for all the minor drug prosecutions in the U.S. which cost everyone else ALOT of money. and i highly doubt the few seized properties cover the cost of people in jail for all those years.. if it was legallized they could tax it at a unbelievable rate, reduce the current population of incarcerations (saving more money).. imagine the money they would make by forcing people to get permits to grow/sell and taxing a multi-billion dollar industry.. it would be ridiculously high. not to mention if you look at crime rates in countries that the drug is currently legalized you'll notice a HUGE difference.. and if crime rates drop guess who wins... all of us taxpayers who pay to hold and feed all the people currently in prison. i don't smoke marijuana or any other drugs but i am on your side. the U.S might actually make money (probably why they haven't done it)

marijuana will never be legal because the government makes far too much money with seized property from growth operations

Well there are a couple of things that you can do. Get enough people (pot heads will do just fine, there are alot of them any way) to vote for the Marijuana Party, then since the Marijuana Party will have some seats in parlement as time progresses the number of seats may meaning that the Marijuana Party may become a majority government, this allows them to legalize marijuana. And once something is legalized it is hard to illegalize it.
Or you could get someone that smokes pot to run in a liberal (or left winged party) to show how much money they can make buy legalizing pot and taxing it. Since all politicans are pigs, when they hear this they will most likely be for it, but start it off in British Columbia since they are already half there for Legalizing pot.

Keep it illegal the main reason why people smoke weed is because it vitalize the mind, body and soul. Plus if weed is legalized then the prices will raise and the cost of production will raise making it almost impossible to make a reasonable profit.

This book on "consensual crimes" is both entertaining to read, and offers all the arguments in favor:

You gotta read it...

Okay I didn't make it legal but it's the lowest priority for the Seattle PD.. even after jaywalking and wearing your seatbelt. So toke it up, baby!

I'd probably pay $10,000 to whom ever could get it done, but $10 is a start.

Makes sense to me. Besides, alcohol is legal and people get belligerent when they drink... how often have you seen a belligerent stoned dude? Let's legalize it, save money on law enforcement, and reap some cash on taxes.

The government could get some great tax revenue from this, too.
