Looking for an apartment in Chelsea, NY for $1400 and under (including broker's fee) (Closed)

$10.00
Okay I have been stressed out ever since I looked at Craigslist prices for apartments in NY. Apparently apartments rent within a couple of hours to finance guys who make hundreds of thousands of dollars. Not being one of them I was wondering if anyone knew how I could get a reasonably priced apartment in Manhattan close to Chelsea. (and I would like my own bathroom:-))

Okay I did manage to find an apartment, it cost me close to $1600 and I did not manage to avoid the broker's fee. How ever I live a couple of blocks from work and right next to the Y (yay swimming pool). Ahh life in NY begins.

You found a place! Congratulations! I'll be sure to drop a line the next time I'm in town.

NJ is really close to NYC. your husband wants to compare 30 mins and 3 hours commute?
or you may convince him to live in NJ with you and have him commute 3 hours/day.

You know I am beginning to believe that Midtown W or E might be a better idea after all. I would rather live in Manhattan as if I suggested NJ or elsewhere Vitthal (my husband) would get me to live with him in Connecticut which means 3 hours commute/day.

Chelsea is one of the more pricey rental areas in Manhattan. With apartment rents increasing at the rate they are this year, it's going to be tough. Do you have a specific reason for living in Chelsea? There are other areas like Midtown West which are going to be more affordable.

Well...

I found a handful here: http://unfurnished.new-york-apartment.com/en/listing/

..But...with a median income in Chelsea of $119 K, I don't think you are going to find much. As a curious note, this is one of the few places I have seen with more furnished apartments listed than unfurnished apartments.

Good luck!! There's nothing I can really do to help from Seattle, but I have my fingers crossed for you :)
