My friend and his wife will be in Seattle on July 30th after their week long Alaska cruise. They will arrive the city around noon time and fly back to NJ the next morning. They are currently seeking advice on how to make best use of their short stay in that great city. Can any of the Seattle mob users help out?

I like to...

...go see the new sculpture park down by the piers (http://www.seattleartmuseum.org/visit/OSP/default.asp. Don't miss the Vivarium.
...go to Volunteer Park to see the Conservatory (http://www.seattle.gov/parks/parkspaces/VolunteerPark/conservatory.htm. It has five separate rooms in the greenhouse with different climates and different types of plants. I find it peaceful, beautiful, and a little surreal. If you go to the park, there's a nearby restaurant on 15th avenue called "The Hopvine" that has pretty good beer and yummy food.
...go see the troll under the Fremont Bridge (http://www.roadsideamerica.com/attract/WASEAtroll.html. While you're there you might as well check out Lenin too.
...go to the corner of 4th Ave and Pine St downtown. There always seems to be a lot of energy in this square. And it's just blocks from Pike Place Market, which of course is a must see (and if you like cheese, the sandwiches at Beecher's Cheese are delicious).
...check out the Ballard Locks (http://www.seattle.gov/tour/locks.htm) where boats pass between Puget Sound and Lake Washington.
...take the Seattle Underground Tour from Pioneer Square (http://www.undergroundtour.com) to hear the more interesting tidbits about Seattle's history. While you're in the Pioneer Square area, go the Elliot Bay Bookstore (http://www.elliottbaybook.com/about/index.jsp) for a coffee and book browsing. I also liked the tour of the Smith Tower just a block away (http://www.smithtower.com.
...go to Kerry Park in Queen Anne for a fantastic view of Seattle and Puget Sound either during the day or in the evening (http://www.cityofseattle.net/parks/parkspaces/kerry.htm. While you're in the area, drive a few blocks down Queen Anne Ave to Chopstix, a dueling piano bar (http://www.chopstixpianobar.com/seattle.html. For a delicious dessert, check out the Melting Pot - a fondue place just a block or two away (http://www.meltingpot.com/seattlewa/home.html.
...head to the Stumbling Monk in Capitol Hill (http://www.nwbrewpage.com/wapubs/StumbMonk.html) for a delicious belgian beer. The have a good number of beer on tap and many more bottled.

Bainbridge island is beautiful,
http://bainbridgeisland.com/
and has one of the best eating spots in the area, Nola's cafe:
http://www.cafenola.com/

Taking the ferry to get there is easy and the ride gives you a beautiful view of Puget Sound.

Enjoy!

I sent this link to a bunch of people who will be taking the same Alaska cruise from Seattle port. Some of them may be interested in touring this city too.

Thank you so much for the wonderful information, Alexis! I myself can't wait to visit these places too.
Yeah. I would love to hear suggestions from more Seattelites!

Thanks! Sounds very interesting. I checked the Ballard Seafoodfest.org just now and the dates for 2007 are 7/28, 7/29. So, my friends will miss it. But since my husband and I will be there on 7/28 and 7/29, very likely we'll be there to taste the seafood. We love seafood!

One night: Ballard Seafoodfest.org
But more importantly, that is just a good day to explore fremont and gasworks park and fly a kite.
