Yes. I knew about iris. They left my iris and galdius alone for a couple of years. But, believe or not, they eventually ate them all!!!
When they get really hungry, they eat anything. I hope they did not die after eating my iris...well, probably not b/c there are more and more deers coming every year.
Actually, I am thinking of getting this device which is suggested by Alexis in her comments. I have not had chance to buy one yet. But I think this solution is more permanent and does not cost too much $$$ and does not involve a lot work...

They have their own path to visit daily. I don't really know where they come from, but I know they walk from my right-hand side neighbor's yard to my back yard, then walk along my left-hand side neighbor's fence to the house cross the street.
One day, a neighbor put up a net (black, soft, and you don't see it easily) that you can get in home deport. Deer cannot walk their regular path anymore. For a couple of years, I don't see any deer around the house. Now I know deer still come to visit even I don't see them. I have tree peony, azalea, phlox, daffodil, japanese surge, iris holly, euonymus, rhododendron, yew, juniper,... (rose and tulip in fence) just add dahlia this year.
You can try to break their regular path and re-route them to other places.
I certainly hope the device will work for you and would like to know the result.
